FORECAST DISCUSSION – From The Cal-U Weather Laboratory
Issued: 1430Z MONDAY, DECEMBER 01, 2008

Synopsis...

Currently at Cal U Weather Center the temperature reads 39 degrees with a light SW wind.  Barometric Pressure reads 997 mb.  Upper Air analysis at the 250 mb level depicts a deep extensive trough extending out of Ontario deep into Mississippi and Louisiana.  A vertical stacked low exists from the 500 mb low to the surface indicating the low is beginning to weaken.  The low is currently positioned over lake Huron and is bringing wet conditions in front of the system with snow coming in behind the cold front.  Plenty of cold solenoids present north of Montana into Alberta and Saskatchewan indicating CAA.  WAA is visible along the eastern seaboard of the US.  High pressure positioned over the west.  Cold air is invading much of the US.

Near Term...

Mid Lat Cyclone to move through the region today, bringing snow showers.  Cold temperatures are likely to follow the passage of the front, dropping the temperatures back into the low 30s.  The trough will allow northerly winds to prevail over our region, which is going to bring cold temperatures to the region as well.  WRF-NMM model predicts that precip will be likely into early Wed morning.

Long Term...

Cold temperatures will be consistent into the end of the week with a warm up likely with the trough subsiding later into the weekend.  Sunny skies will likely be present with the high pressure moving into the region later into the week.
