Next Club Meeting
The next Meteorology Club meeting will be next Thursday, November 12th at 11 AM in Eberly Room 255. We will be opening nominations for Club President for the Spring 2010 semester to replace President Potsey, who is graduating. It is very important that you attend this meeting, especially if you plan on running.
Winter Social
December 10, 2009
The Meteorology Club's annual Winter Social will be held Thursday
December 10th, 2009 at the Meadows Racetack & Casino Bowling Alley from 6-9 PM. The club will have our own private
four bowling lanes in a private room. Pizza and drinks will be provided by the club, with additional food and
beverages available for purchace. 40 people will be able to attend, with a sign-up sheet becoming available at the
next club meeting (November 12). You will be allowed to bring guests, but club members get priority. This means
that if more than 40 people sign up, guests will be the first to get cut, starting from the bottom up. Price
will be $10 a person for students and faculty, and $5 for graduating seniors. More information will be given at

34th Annual NWA Conference in Norfolk, VA
October 17-22, 2009
The 34th Annual National Weather Association Conference was held in Norfolk, Virginia, at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside Hotel. Dr. Kauffman and 20 students were financially assisted by the club to attend this conference. Three students presented their research in the student poster session on Sunday, October 18. The annual Earth Science Department picnic was held on Sunday, September 13th at Cedar Creek Park.

Educational Outreach on the Move
The educational outreach committee has begun their visits for the Fall 2008 Semester. The committee has attended several schools which include Jefferson Morgan High School, Mapletown High School and California Middle School. The educational outreach program in the meteorology club promotes our program and club but also enhances the knowledge of the students at the visited schools. Fun activities and presentations are given to each class. If you would like our educational outreach to come to your class, please contact Caitlin Lawrence at law1274@calu.edu.
Southwest PA named AMS Student Chapter of the Year
The Southwest PA chapter of the American Meteorological Society has been named AMS Student Chapter of the Year for "continued pursuit of excellence with outreach activities, as well as its mentoring program, involvement in fundraising events, and weather support for its campus." Congratulations to the members of the California University of Pennsylvania Meteorology Club! The club will be sending 16 of its members to the 90th Annual AMS conference in Atlanta, Georgia this January.
Rafting Trip

Club members embarked on a fun and death-defying whitewater rafting trip on Sunday, September 20th. After over four hours on the whitewater, and many close calls, the group successfully navigated the Youghiogheny River's class III rapids. Click here for the photo gallery (thanks to Dustin Snare).

2008 StormFest is a Success!
Thank you to all of the volunteers who participated in this three day event at the Carnegie Science Center! This could not have been done without your help. A special thanks to Katie Mercadante, Jonathan Jennings, Josh Eachus, Dr. Chad Kauffman and Dr. Susan Jasko for all their hard work over the past year to make this such a successful event. The Cal U Weather Center issues forecasts for the Southwest Pennsylvania region Monday through Friday during the academic year. Forecasts will not be updated during holidays and university breaks. During severe weather events the Cal U Weather Center will issue special weather statements. View our forecast area.
