While the Herron Patio is under construction untill 2009 the Underground transforms the Gold Rush into an open mic night every Thursday night.

During the day, most Cal U students know it as Herron Patio. However, every Thursday night, Herron Patio is transformed into Open Mic Night at the Underground Café. Students looking for a non-alcoholic event can come down to relax and drink a cup of coffee while listening to the music performed by their fellow students and local musicians.

The event runs every Thursday from 9PM to midnight during fall and spring semesters, and if enjoying some local talent wasn’t enough for you there's also a door prize drawing at about 11:00pm each Thursday.

Performers who want to showcase their talent should come down a little before 9:00 to sign up. Each performer is allotted a fifteen-minute time slot.

The Underground is done in connection with BACCHUS that educates students on the dangers of an impaired lifestyle and provides substance free alternatives for college students.
