The Department of Recreational Services
The mission of the Department of Recreational Services is to provide recreational facilities, programs, and developmental opportunities for the university community. Recreational Services provides exposure to a variety of activities that contribute to individual physical fitness. The Department also creates opportunities for cooperative and competitive play in the game form. Recreational Services instills in participants a lifelong appreciation for physical activity as well as enhancing the social, psychological and physiological development of the university community members it serves. The department is comprised of six service areas: informal recreation, intramural sports, extramural sports, fitness, wellness and club sports.

Below are just a few of many recreational opportunities available to California University of Pennsylvania students throughout the year.
- Complete access to state of the art cardio machines, free weight equipment, basketball court, aerobics programs and swimming pool at Hamer Hall.
- Special Fitness Events including Bike Across Pennsylvania, HRFC Triathalon, Climb Gauntlet Mountain, Thanksgiving Turkey Trot, and Spring Break Run.
- Intramural leagues and tournaments including Flag Football League, 5 on 5 Basketball League, Softball League, Volleyball League, 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament, Racquetball Tournament, and Dodgeball Tournament.
- Extramural trips include flag football to the University of Maryland and 5 on 5 basketball to Ohio University.
- Sports Clubs include Ice Hockey, Men's and Women's Rugby, Equestrian, Frisbee, Archery, Men's and Women's Lacrosse and Fencing.
- Wellness resource includes Healthy Habits web site promoting health and wellness activities for the university community.
Fall 2009 Fitness Events
Fitness Events are held in Herron Recreation and Fitness Center utilizing equipment. Prizes are awarded. Participation is on your own during the duration of each event. Record miles at front desk of HRFC.
