Facts about CAL U PGM Interns

What education and experience do your students have?

Our students study the following topics in the classroom: teaching, tournament operations, rules of golf, merchandising & inventory control, golf car fleet management, customer relations, supervising & delegating, turfgrass, and food & beverage. Our students also take a number of courses in business and in general sport management. In order to be in the program, students must have a demonstrated handicap of 10 or less.

How much does it cost me to hire an intern?

Hiring an intern is much like hiring a seasonal employee or entry-level assistant. Typically interns are paid an hourly wage equivalent to the going rate for entry-level seasonal workers.

What are some of the benefits of hiring PGM interns?

1) Long-term contracts are not expected, so you may hire an intern during your peak season, when you need additional employees the most.
2) Our interns are committed to a career in the golf industry- they are not simply high school kids or retirees looking for extra cash or something to do.
3) You will feel good about being a mentor for aspiring golf professionals.

What else do I need to do?

We just ask that, in addition to basic supervision and mentoring, you complete 3 forms:
1) An initial form agreeing to the terms of the internship and setting forth the job description
2) A "mid-term" evaluation, typically about 6 weeks into the internship, in which you answer a few very brief questions about the intern's performance
3) A final evaluation (typically at the end of 12-14 weeks) which includes a recommended grade for the student based on his or her attitude and job performance
