Other Events
SAB is also responsible for several other events on campus. For example, SAB sponsors a week long series surrounding CUP's Homecoming theme every October. Students can see a variety of different events everyday such as a guest speakers, a Broadway-style play, a psychic-magician, make your own music video set and many other diverse forms of entertainment. SAB contributes to various artistic and cultural programs through the Reed Recital Series, several art exhibits with the art department, several events surrounding Black History Month with the Black Student Union, and the annual concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony. Many exciting Pay-Per-View events are also viewed on campus as part of a weekend event series.
Other SAB-sponsered events:
- Laser Tag
- Paintball Games
- Monte Carlo Night
- Sky Diving Simulator
- NASCAR Simulator
- Game Shows
- Caricature Artists
Not all SAB sponsored activities occur on campus. Throughout the year, SAB sponsors or co-sponsors several events which enable students to explore entertaining possibilities outside the immediate area. For example, SAB is a subscriber to the Pittsburgh Public Theater and offers students the opportunity to see several plays in Pittsburgh. Our students have seen wonderful performances by four-time Academy Award Nominee Marsha Mason and several plays by Pulitzer Prize-Winning Pittsburgh Native playwright, August Wilson.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are also a favorite. Trips to local concerts are another popular activity for students on our campus. In the past, students have seen great acts like Janet Jackson, Smash Mouth, Tori Amos and Britney Spears at nearby venues. Outings to local haunted houses and shopping trips are also well received off-campus trips.
We also sponsor trips to see big Vulcans sporting events. We planned a trip to Cleveland in Spring 2007 to see the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and take in a Cavaliers game.
Comedy
Many talented comedians are brought to campus each semester through a series sponsored by SAB. Past comedy favorites include: Dave Chappelle (Comedy Central's "Chappelle Show"), Charlie Murphy, Billy Burr, Donnell Rawlings, Janeane Garafalo (Reality Bites), Tracey Morgan (Saturday Night Live), and various guest comedians from HBO and Comedy Central programs. SAB members also get the opportunity to meet these talented people, in some cases before they become big stars, right here on our campus!
