California University of Pennsylvania
What We're All About
The Student Association, Incorporated has historically maintained two programming committees at California University of Pennsylvania (Cal U): The Student Entertainment Committee (SEC) for contemporary entertainment and the Entertaining Arts Committee (EAC) for cultural events.
Several years ago, a super committee was created which encompasses the goals of both communities thus attracting more student volunteers and alleviating entertainment scheduling problems. This super committee, now known as the Student Activities Board (SAB), is the primary organization responsible for programming the entertainment activities for the entire California University community.
In more recent efforts to include as many students as possible and to increase the overall appeal of sponsored events, the SAB has moved to a committee structure made up of seven entities. They are concerts, lectures, weekends, special events, cultural, recreation, and films.
SAB is composed entirely of full time CUP students. The only requirements for becoming a voting member of the SAB are that you must serve as a chairperson for an SAB event and attend two weekly SAB meetings, which are at 4pm on Thursday in Natali Room 206/207.
That sounds easy enough, doesn't it?
Being involved with SAB is a learning experience as well as a fun one. Students can learn very valuable skills concerning promotion and advertising by chairing various events. Students can also learn how to operate technical equipment such as a sound and light board and audio setups.
Involvement in SAB offers students the opportunity to sharpen special business concepts such as communication skills, budget development and program evaluation.
