Does someone you know have a drinking problem?

  • Do they get irritated when you want to talk about their drinking habits?
  • Have they been arrested for their behavior while intoxicated or for driving under the influence of alcohol?
  • Do the always have a headache or hangover after they've been drinking?
  • Do they have financial difficulties?
  • Does their personality change when they are drinking?
  • Have they neglected school, work or other obligations due to drinking?

Some "Eye-Opening" Facts!

  • 0.8% is the legal Blood Alcohol Content limit for Driving Under the Influence
  • Blood Alcohol Content continues to increase even after you stop drinking
  • 67% of Cal U students have 0-5 drinks per week.
  • 19% of Cal U students don't drink at all.

Do you think you have a drinking problem?

  • Do you feel uncomfortable in social situations where no alcohol is provided?
  • Has drinking caused you to be late or miss class or work?
  • Do you get drunk every time you drink?
  • Is it difficult to stop drinking after you have had one or two drinks?
  • Do you have trouble remembering what you did while you were drinking?
  • Has anyone expressed concern about your drinking?

What can you do?

  • Make sure that there is plenty to do at your party without relying on alcohol to have a good time.
  • Always serve food when you know people will be drinking
  • Do not push alcohol on your guests. Respect your guests who choose not to drink by offering alternative alcohol beverages.
  • Stock a limited amount. If the party is good and there is food, the party will continue when you run out of alcohol.
  • Make sure that transportation is available, or provide transportation or other accommodations for your guests who might drink too much and are unable to drive home.
