Part of operating a university is developing an appropriate environment which fosters individual learning and growth. One of the methods of achieving an appropriate environment is through setting behavioral expectations for students in a code of conduct. The President of California University has delegated this responsibility to the Assistant Dean for Student Conduct who directs the Office of Student Conduct within the Division of Student Development and Services. The student code of conduct focuses on the development of an environment based on the university’s core values of integrity, civility and responsibility in to assist in fostering students’ academic, social and personal growth and development. The code of conduct outlines behavioral expectations for students whether on or off campus. Allegations of violations of the code of conduct will be addressed through the process outlined in the code as an administrative function of the university. Hearing officers are responsible for investigating complaints; conducting preliminary meetings with students to discuss the complaint, explain the conduct process and inform students of their rights and responsibilities; and resolve complaints through administrative hearings or refer them for a conduct board hearing.
The Office of Student Conduct is part of the Office of Student Development and Services which is located in the Natali Student Center, room 230. Student Conduct is directed by the Assistant Dean for Student Conduct who can be reached at (724) 938-4439.
OFFICE OF STUDENT CONDUCT MISSION STATEMENT
The Office of Student Conduct supports the university’s mission of building the character and careers of students by assisting students in making mature, responsible decisions that maintain an appropriate educational environment; protect themselves and others; and demonstrate respect for property. These efforts are focused on providing policies that offer clear guidance on acceptable behavior, procedures which respect individual rights and opportunities for student reflection on their decisions and actions.
University policies are intended to provide guidance and structure for students in their relations with others, use of university and other’s property and development of appropriate decision making abilities. Reflection on actions and decisions is intended to assist students in learning from each situation they are involved in to refine their decision-making and problem-solving skills. Along with this, understanding how their actions can impact others as well as their future career goals is a priority for Student Conduct.
