Student Leadership Development
The Student Leadership Development Department fosters ethical leadership and encourages involvement in leadership opportunities to enhance a students capacity for dealing effectively with complex problems, real-life leadership situations, and cross- cultural issues. These comprehensive programs are designed to promote an understanding of leadership theory and research, and skills and competencies that support leadership effectiveness. Students will also formalize a more fully developed code of personal ethics, and an enhanced sense of lifelong commitment to social responsibility and citizenship. There are specific programs developed for fist-and second-year students from traditionally underserved groups, athletes, residence hall students, and Greek letter organization members.
Emerging Leaders Program
In addition, the Emerging Leaders
program is limited primarily, but
not exclusively, to 25 first-year
students and is conducted during
the fall semester. It equips potential
student leaders with skills including
public speaking, team building, goal
setting, and conflict resolution.
Participants are introduced
to several theories of leadership.
Speakers host sessions on their area
of expertise. This program uses experiential
exercises to encourage students
to put new skills into action. For more information on any of these
programs, contact Brenda Fetsko
at 724-938-4303.
