Community,Internet, State, and National Hotlines/Contact Numbers
General Information
You or someone you care about may need a resource to obtain help for a mental health problem. Generally, it is wise to call several facilities in order to determine the one that best meets your needs. The exception to this is during times of an emergency, when it is best to go to the emergency room of the nearest hospital. If you are unsure, but suspect that there may be an emergency, hotline numbers can be very useful.
As a student of California University of PA, you are eligible to obtain six free psychological consultation sessions per semester, usually during daytime hours when the university is open for regular classroom activity. After hours sessions are by special appointment. To schedule an appointment, please call (724) 938-4056 between 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM. After hours, questions and on-campus emergencies are handled by Public Safety (724) 938-HELP.
When the university is closed, you may wish to begin treatment. If you do not have a therapist and/or psychiatrist and you need services beyond what the University provides, consider contacting your family physician, managed care provider through your insurance company, or local mental health providers listed in the yellow pages of the telephone book (such persons are usually listed as licensed counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists).
If you want help from a service provider that is geographically close to the university, perhaps the resources listed on the following pages could be of help to you. Also, search the yellow pages of the Mon Valley telephone book for other resources.
The following hotline information is presented as a service to the university community. It is not intended to be a comprehensive listing, merely a starting point for help.
