Membership is free and open to any commuting student attending Cal U. We would like to welcome you for a meeting. Inside the Commuter Council

What is the Commuter Council up to these days? Here is some of what they are working on:
  • Halloween in the Commuter Center – A pizza party and scary movies all Halloween day.
  • Thanksgiving Raffle – members solicit the support of local businesses to provide prizes to be raffled away prior to the Thanksgiving holiday. Remember to support California local businesses.
  • Christmas in the Commuter Center – Join the Commuter Council and Commuter Center student staff the week prior to finals week to decorate, get in the Christmas spirit and to help everyone get through finals week.
  • Snow Tubing at Seven Springs – Bring the family along for an evening of snow tubing at Seven Springs Mountain Resort. (February date and ticket information to be announced / minimal refundable deposit required / bus transportation will be provided*)
  • Penguins game – Each spring the Commuter Council sponsors a trip to Pittsburgh to watch Mario & Co. play a game. (spring date and ticket information to be announced / $10 per ticket, maximum two tickets per student / students provide their own transportation)
  • Commuter Week – Each spring a special week is reserved for commuter students in the Commuter Center. Highlights include free food treats, movies and Playstation 2 tournaments.
  • Student Government – Where are your fee dollars going? Commuter Council members who regularly participate as representatives in Student Government are the voice of commuter students. Get involved. Although commuter students constitute a majority of the student population, commuter students are vastly under-represented in Student Government.
  • Each academic year the Commuter Council chooses a charity activity. Last year, books were donated to the “Elf Bookshop” Project benefiting local underprivileged kids.

*Pending approval of university budget allocation for bus transportation.

What has the Commuter Council been up to this academic year?

Here is what the Commuter Council has accomplished so far:
  • Commuter Council members help to represent Cal U during both Discovery Days (recruiting new students) and the Cal U Orientation program, including the Commuter Center Open House held each Monday prior to the opening of classes each semester.
  • Cal U Health Fair The Commuter Council welcomed railroad crossing safety representatives from the Norfolk Southern Railroad as part of the Cal U Heath Fair.
  • Think smart and brake for trains! Family Day and KidZone – The Commuter Center was transformed again this fall for Family Day into a fun place for the kids of students and kids who have a brother or sister in college. Commuter Council members helped by conducting face painting and building the indoor playground. Over 100 visited KidZone this year!
