Welcome friends...
St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church is located in the small town known as California, Pennsylvania. Recently the church has celebrated its 119th anniversary and is still going strong. The Parish was first located in a small white frame church in Coal Center and was then transported to a red brick school building in California. The stigma of being a "temporary" church ended on January 14, 1996 when Bishop Donald W. Wuerl, (presently Archbishop of Washington DC), came to our town to dedicate the renovated church. The renovated church now features stained glass windows, a fresh design featuring: new altar and pews, a cry room, and a bathroom.
Saint Thomas Aquinas, an Italian Catholic priest, was known as "the most saintly of the learned and the most learned of the saints." He was the patron saint of all universities, colleges, and schools. Since we are located less than a mile away from California University of Pennsylvania, this ties in with one of our church's mission statements. A number of our parishioners are students from the university.
