UNIVERSITY SHUTDOWN: Classes canceled and university closed through Friday Feb. 12

By Jared BundyEditor-in-Chief

California University of Pennsylvania will be closed through and including Friday, Feb. 12.  All classes and activities are canceled and will resume Saturday, Feb. 13.

The decision was made after taking into account the State of Emergency in California Borough, lack of power in the borough, water concerns and the winter storm that will be arriving Tuesday.

All residents with vehicles parked behind residence halls A, B, and C are asked to move their vehicles to the River Lot immediately, as well as students living in the borough.  Remaining vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.

Emergency shelter will continue to be provided to Vulcan Village residents, off-campus students and borough residents at Natali Student Center, where food services also are available.  Showers will be available in Herron Hall Recreation and Fitness Center for students and borough residents.

Round-trip shuttle service will continue to be provided between Natali Student Center and the Vulcan Village Fitness Center every 10 minutes.

Students who are planning to leave campus are encouraged to so today and avoid the coming storm.

Vice President of University Relations Angela Burrows confirmed the closing shortly before 3 p.m. Monday.

AVI Food services will be operating, Burrows said.
