Fire tears through California apartment building

An early Christmas morning fire destroyed at least two apartments in an apartment complex on Union Street.
The apartments are above P.J. McMonagle’s Bar.
The fire was reported by a passer-by shortly before 1 a.m. Heavy smoke and flames were shooting from the third floor windows when crews arrived on scene.
Two people were injured in the blaze, including a police officer.
California University police told the Cal Times the injured officer was a member of the California Borough police who rescued a person from the burning structure.
University police said the borough officer found a male in one of the apartments and pulled him from the building. University police assisted with getting the man out of harm’s way.
The person who was rescued from the building and was taken by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital. The police officer was taken to Mon Valley hospital to be checked.
Their names and conditions were not being released.
The State Police Fire Marshall is investigating the fire.
