Student Spotlight – Ian Wilson

LK: Why did you first get involved with WCAL?
IW: “I like music and it was something I’ve always wanted to do. I wanted to play good music; music aside from Top 40.”
LK: What radio shows do you host?
IW: “Rock ‘n Roll Mongoose on Friday from 2-6 p.m. and Aural Assault on Sunday from 6-10 p.m.”
LK: What is your favorite genre of music?
IW: “Thrash Metal”
LK: What are your responsibilities as operations director?
IW: “Maintaining the station. [It involves] fixing or reporting damages and making sure DJ’s are keeping their tech logs.”
LK: What is the best part about being involved with the radio station?
IW: “All of the people down there. A lot of my friends are down there and it is just a fun time.”
LK: What else do you do on/off campus?
IW: “I go to a lot of shows and spend a lot of time with friends watching the Pens.”
LK: What has been your most memorable moment at Cal U?
IW: “Probably the radio lock-in last year. 48 hours locked in a room with six other dudes is kind of hard to get out of your head.”
LK: What is the most frequently played song on your iPod?
IW: “Nothing defeats the skull,” by Rumpelstiltskin Grinder
LK: What is the last movie you’ve seen in theaters?
IW: “Paranormal Activity”
LK: What is your best advice?
IW: “Don’t care what other people think.”
LK: Where do you hope to be in 10 years?
IW: “Have a decent job in a high school woodshop, a house, and a family”
LK: What three words describe your life right now?
IW: “ Fun, challenging, metal”
