Computer Access

If You Bring Your Own Computer:

All Residence hall rooms have at least two Cat-5 connections for computer hook-up to the California University Network. There is no need to use a modem or contract with an outside Internet provider while on campus. This service is provided at no additional cost 

Recommended Minimums:

  • 10/100 BaseT network card required (Card must be installed and working properly. It can be obtained and installed at most computer stores. University does not provide or install the network card)
  • Windows XP or MAC OS X
  • 1.4 GHz Pentium 3 PC or 500MHz G3 Mac
  • 256 MB of memory

Students should bring a CAT 5 network cable with them if they plan on using wired connections. Windows Systems must also be current on their Windows Updates and have approved antivirus software with up-to-date definitions.

User is responsible for having legal copies of all software and drivers. It is recommended that operating system discs and driver discs be brought with computer.

Computer LabsIn addition to personal computer access, every residence hall has a complement of Computer Labs for students' use. Students have access to any of the network services on campus including:

  • California University's Manderino Library
  • Other State System Libraries
  • E-mail and Webspace
  • Internet access

All computers in the labs are equipped with:

  • Microsoft Office XP professional
  • CRT for E-mail
  • Internet Browers
  • Various Picture and HTML Editors

All Residence Hall labs are accessible twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week during school terms. Students access the computer labs with their room key. The residence hall labs are available for residents and their guests with a valid I.D. Each lab has a laser printer for the students to use, but students must usually supply their own paper. University Computer Use Policies must be followed while using the California University of Pennsylvania Computer Network.
