Creed & Aims

Creed

To fill my days with satisfying activity,

To find dominant beauty in art, literature, nature, and friendships,

To know the peace and serenity of a divine faith,

To love life and joyously live each day to its ultimate good-

This is my creed in Alpha Sigma Alpha.

Insignia

The insignia of Alpha Sigma Alpha are the star, crown, palm tree, and Phoenix. The star represents the aspirations of Alpha Sigma Alphas to live up to the ideals of the sorority. The crown represents leadership attained and the name of recognition given to our alumnae. The palm tree represents an emblem of sturdy development. The Phoenix, the central symbol in our coat-of-arms, openly represents the re-organization of our sorority that occurred in 1914.

Exemplars

Alpha Sigma Alpha has chosen four exemplars whos lives personify the ideals of our sorority: Christ, St. alentine, Hermes, and King Asa.

  • Christ is the first exemplar of Alpha Sigma Alpha and though different religions quest the divinity of Jesus, his message to Alpha Sigma Alpha is agape, an open accepting love of one another.
  • St. Valentine has been regarded for centuries as the beloved friend of youth and has been reasured as a sign that love should never perish from the Earth.
  • Hermes, the third exemplar, beheld the power to restore health, to secure success in any undertaking, and to grant happiness to whomever he chose.
  • King Asa, the fourth exemplar, was inseparable from the Phoenix as a child. The Phoenix, who understood all things perfectly, was able to provide wise counsel for the Jewish King.
